As you may know, people in the industry love crossing from field to field. From singers who think they can act to actors who think they can sing. Whether they were discovered during a movie or decided to take on the music industry themselves, the following are a list of people who i think deserve some recognition.
1. Zooey Deschanel

One half of the duo She & Him,you may recognize her from the famous 500 Days of Summer, and more recently the TV show, New Girl. Deschanel not only sings, but plays the guitar,keyboards,ukelele and banjo.
According to She & Him‘s website, Deschanel had been writing songs secretly for years before allowing anyone to hear them. After collaborating with bandmate,Matt Ward on an indie film. The pair enjoyed working together and formed a band.
She & Him have since released three albums, Volume 1, Volume 2 , and A Very She & Him Christmas.

2. Ryan Gosling

The man who made girls all over the world swoon wish they had their very own Noah Calhoun with the line” if you’re a bird,i’m a bird” in movie, The Notebook. Yes, that Ryan Gosling.
Part of the band, Dead Man’s Bones with Zach Shields. The entire sound of the band is rather ghostly as Gosling and Shields both discovered that they were obsessed with ghosts. Which explains the lyrical content of their self titled debut album.

3. Juliette Lewis

Part of the band Juliette and The Licks(unfortunately the band broke up in 2009).
Lewis has been in movies such as, Natural Born Killers, From Dusk till Dawn, Cold Creek Manor and more recently, Due Date.
With The Licks, Lewis released three albums. With her new band, The New Romantiques, Lewis released the album,‘ Terra Incognito’ in 2009, which was produced by Omar Rodriguez Lopez of Mars Volta.

4. Jamie Foxx

Foxx released his first album Peep This in 1994, but the album gained very little commercial success. His big break came when he released his second album Unpredictable and his collaboration with Kanye West on the song, ‘ Gold Digger’
He then went on to release a third album, Intuition in 2008 which featured the radio-friendly ‘Blame It’.
Foxx released his fourth album in 2010, Best Night of My Life which featured the collaboration between Foxx, T.I and Justin Timberlake on his single, “Winner”.

5. Gwyneth Paltrow

Paltrow is no stranger to the music scene. Wife of Coldplay’s frontman, Chris Martin, Paltrow isn’t finding it hard to escape her husband’s shadows.
You may have heard her perform a cover version of Smokey Robinson’s ‘Cruisin’ in her movie Duets, which she later released as a single in 2000.
More recently, Paltrow appeared in the country-themed movie, Country Strong where she recorded a song of the same name for the movie soundtrack. She performed the song live at the CMA’s last year.

6. Ed Westwick

Made famous by the popular character on Gossip Girl, Chuck Bass who’s played by Stevenage’s own Ed Westwick. “I’m Chuck Bass” is probably the most well known introduction and universally understood statement used to explain any situation.
Many people are unaware that Westwick is English much less that’s he’s the frontman of an indie punk band called The Filthy Youth.
The band are currently unsigned and have not released an album yet as Westwick is based in the US to focus on his acting career.

7. Tyler Blackburn

Best known as Caleb Rivers on Pretty Little Liars. Blackburn made his singing debut last year on his web series,Wendy.
He recently released his first single ‘ Find a Way’ on Itunes and is in the process of recording an album, according to an interview by Ryan Seacrest.

8. Jason Schwartzman

Seen in movies such as The Darjeeling Limited and Scott Pilgrim VS The World and HBO series Bored to Death, Schwartzman isn’t a stranger to the music scene.
Prior to releasing his solo indie pop project, Coconut Records, he was a drummer in the band Phantom Planet who were responsible for hit tv series The OC’s theme song, ‘California’.
Coconut Records released two albums. 2007 album ‘Nighttiming’ featured collaborations with Schwartzman‘s brother,Robert(lead singer of Rooney) Zooey Deschanel, Brandon Boyd (lead singer of Incubus), and Ben Kenney(Incubus bassist).
Sophomore album ‘Davy’ was released in 2009 with the single ‘ Microphone’
Schwartzman also composed the theme song for his HBO series, Bored to Death under Coconut Records.

9. Scarlett Johansson

After performing with Scottish band, The Jesus and Mary Chains at Coachella in 2007, Johansson recorded an album the following year of Tom Waits’ covers titled, ‘ Anywhere I Lay My Head’. The album featured collaborations with David Bowie and the bands Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Celebration.
She then released collaborative album with Pete Yorn. In an interview with The Guardian, Yorn said the album was inspired by Serge Gainsbourg’s collaboration with Brigitte Bardot.
While the album sounds nothing like anything Gainsbourg and Bardot‘s albums, Johansson certainly has a 60’s touch to her voice.

10. Minnie Driver

From Finsbury Park in London, Driver has been casted in movies such as Good Will Hunting, Tarzan,The Phantom of the Opera and Conviction.
Four years after her 2001 performance at SXSW, Driver released the album, ‘ Everything I’ve Got in My Pocket’ which reached No. 43 on Billboard’s ‘Hot Heatseekers’ chart.
In 2007, Driver released her second album, ‘Seastories‘ reached No. 25 on Billboards’ Hot Heatseekers chart. She collaborated with Liz Phair, Neal Casal and Ryan Adams with his band The Cardinals.
